BRACING

Certain spinal conditions or surgical intervention may require patients to wear a brace to stabilize the spine. The Neurosurgery Group is licensed to fit and dispense these braces when indicated. The following highlights just a few of the indications where spinal stabilization through bracing in initiated.

LUMBAR SPINE FUSION

Following a lumbar fusion, patients are required to wear a ridged Lumbar Sacral Orthosis, or spinal brace, for a period of 4-6 months while. Effective spinal immobilization is critical for healing while the fusion progresses. For more information, or to view the Lumbar Sacral Orthosis, please click on the following website address: http://www.aspenmp.com/products/lso/overview.html

LUMBAR FRACTURES or OSTEOPORSIS

Following a vertebral body fracture (broken bone in spine) or for patients who are a high risk for fracture due to osteoporosis (soft bones), a ridged Lumbar Sacral Orthosis or a Thorocolumbar Orthosis is sometimes indicated to relieve pain and prevent further injury. For more information, or to view the Thorocolumbar Orthosis, please click on the following website address: http://www.aspenmp.com/products/tlso/overview.html

CERVICAL SPINE FUSION

Following a cervical fusion, patients are required to wear a cervical brace for approximately 2 months. Spinal immobilization is critical for healing while the fusion progresses. BACK PAIN

For certain injuries to the lumbar spine, patient may benefit by wearing a lumbar support while performing activities of daily living. These braces are also used following physical therapy or surgery when patients are ready to return to the workplace. These braces have a rigid anterior and posterior panel that provides the necessary stability and pressure distribution for a wide range of patient needs.
